Shang Han Za Bing Lun (Treatise on Cold-induced and Miscellaneous Diseases)
|
- Shang Han Za Bing Lu (Treatise on Cold-induced and Miscellaneous Diseases) was written by Zhang Zhongjing in the end of Han Dynasty (206 B.C.~ A.D.220). The book was divided into two different books: Shang Han Lun (Treatise on Cold-induced and Miscellaneous Diseases), and Jin Kui Yao Lue (Synopsis of Prescriptions of the Golden Chamber).
- “Cold-induced diseases” covers all of the exogenous febrile diseases. This book first raised the concept of syndrome differentiation and treatment.
-
Jin Kui Yao Lue is the first monograph on miscellaneous internal diseases, which represents the clinical skill level at that time. This book developed pulse diagnosis by combining pulse-taking and symptoms in the diagnosis, which improved the diagnostic techniques. Besides, this book records a lot of effective formulas frequently used in clinic.
-
In Shang Han Za Bing Lun (Treatise on Cold-induced and Miscellaneous Diseases), there are 269 formulas in over 10 forms of administration, much more than any previous medical books. Thus this book is referred to as the father of formula.
-
As one of the most influential works in the history of traditional Chinese medicine, about five hundred practitioners commented on it through the ages, thus, a unique Shang Han School is established, which has been exerting influence at home and abroad since the Tang (618~A.D.907 ) and Song (960~A.D.1279 ) Dynasties.
