Since the Jin Dynasty (1115~1234), each dynasty had its own Imperial Medical Institution. Especially in the Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties, it was established in Beijing, and in the early stage of the Qing Dynasty it was of a great scale and developed gradually. As an imperial medical organization, its functions were not only offering medical service and health care for the emperor and his family, but also taking charge of medical education. So, imperial court medicine has made a great impact on the development of traditional Chinese medicine in Beijing.
