Five Elements

Five elements refer to wood, fire, earth, metal and water.  The five-elements doctrine was used by ancient scholars to illustrate the changes of nature.  More>>
Wood (and the things pertaining to the category of wood) has the property of growing freely and unfolded.
Fire (and the things pertaining to the category of fire) has the property of warming and flaring up. 
Earth (and the things pertaining to the category of earth) has the property of generating and transforming.
Water (and the things pertaining to the category of water) has the property of cold, moistening and flowing downwards.
Metal (and the things pertaining to the category of metal) has the property of purifying, descending and astringing.
